Assassin!Reader x Police!Japan
Chapter Five
---
"I finally moved into somewhere decent! Now the furniture, I've already got a mental imagination of how the room will be!"
(name) heard the doorbell ring, and she rushed to open the door to see her friend in a gray short-sleeved shirt and a black vest, as well as dark jeans. She, on the other hand wore a summer dress that reached half-way through her thighs, and short pants reaching her knees.
"Thanks for coming over, Kiku!"
"No problem, (name)-chan."
Glancing over your shoulder, Kiku looked into your room—surprised to see how empty it was. A low Japanese-styled table and a small bookshelf stuffed with books.
"So, what do you plan to buy?"
"A separate table for a laptop, possibly a lamp and… maybe some more clothes? And a TV?"
(name) said as she opened her closet with a sliding door with a futon and some clothes. Going out the door, the secret assassin felt like she was on a date with her crush.
---
"Look at this cute lamp!"
(name) said, pointing to a lamp about 3 feet tall. The lamp shade was in the shape of a jellyfish with thin wires that looked like tentacles. The two shopped for the new apartment, and so far, (name) had a large bag of clothes and ordered a table (that would be shipped to her in 2 days or so). As Kiku opened his mouth to say something, her phone rang. Her boss.
"Sorry, let me answer this."
Nodding, she answered. When you are in public places where someone can hear you, pretend you are talking to a friend.
"Hello? Oh, Miyuki! How are you? … Now? But I'm shoppin— is it that urgent?"
Crow sounded very natural, while all she heard was the sound of paper being rustled on the other side of the phone. Then her boss's assistant, Mr. Hasegawa, spoke.
"Will you meet me at the bar in Higashi Shinjuku at 8 PM?"
"Oh, okay, then I'll be at your place by…"
Glancing at her wristwatch, Mr. Hasegawa continued. It was 4:17 PM, and Kiku wandered around looking at the lamps that were lined up in the aisle.
"I've reserved a private seat."
"About 5:30-ish? Good? … M'k, see you!"
Cutting the line, Kiku looked back at her friend. A bit saddened by what he heard (name) said, he shoved his hands into his pockets.
"So, uhm, should you leave soon?"
"Yeah, sorry Kiku. It was fun! Thanks so much."
"No problem. I have to get back to work soon, I guess."
"Police-work, huh? Anything important happening lately, Mr. Officer?"
"Not at all ma'am. Don't worry."
Each of them parting ways, hurried back home and placed her luggage in the living room. What could Mr. Hasegawa want to tell me? He usually tells me that he wants to meet me in place of boss, 'cause he hates being seen, but he didn't say so this time…
---
"Are you Kana Moriguchi?"
He reserved a seat using my fake name. I'm glad I brought my fake ID with that name.
"Yes, yes I am."
"May I see your ID? Then you may follow me."
After doing what the waiter had told (name) to do, she sat down across Mr. Hasegawa. He was an old man, covered with loose folds of skin. His small eyes looked through the small glasses placed on his nose at (name) with a soft expression.
"Mr. Hasegawa, what is it you'd like to tell me?"
"I will tell you in advance that I have not told your boss yet. I've heard you've injured your ankle by a police officer during your last assassination."
Crow squirmed a bit. Mr. Hasegawa took out several one-yen coins and smiled. This was a game he loved—taking turns in slipping the coin in an almost-full glass of water.
"Jun Nagase, your coworker in the bakery has been keeping watch on you…"
"Wait, he's part of the group?! Since when?!"
Crow slipped a coin into the glass, making the liquid rise by very little. She kept watching as the old man spoke with a deep, mellow voice. She was a bit anxious, and wasn't in the mood to see that stone-straight face that Mr. Hasegawa wears all the time.
"I had told you where to have a part-time job, no? At least one of those workers are part of the organization."
Holy motherfucking shit… Mr. Hasegawa carefully dropped another silver coin into the glass.
"He has told me not only that you have publicly shown that your ankle was injured, but that you were interacting with the officer whom had shot you."
"I'm sorry, but I swear he isn't suspecting me—"
"You never know. Japanese society loves to keep secrets. Right now, I'm having special spies to investigate what is happening in that branch of police work. So far, it seems like that Honda boy has not said anything. But please, Crow, we need you to stay put."
"…Is that why you haven't told boss yet?"
The water in the glass looked close enough to spill, and it definitely looked impossible to insert another coin. With very careful hands, Crow slipped yet another coin. Heart pounding a bit, she watched the coin sink to the bottom.
"Yes. Now if you won't show such things in front of this friend of yours, I will let it slip. But keep in mind I still have my eyes on you. And we don't want to risk anything. Or, you may take the simple road in which you can stop being friends with him. Understood?"
Trying to process the conversation, Mr. Hasegawa chuckled and slipped a coin inside.
"Yes, sir. I will be careful."
(name) dropped her coin and saw small droplets of water trickle along the side. A bit frustrated, the assassin rested her head on the table, sighing.
"It is your loss again, ma'am."
"Yeah, yeah. I know."
"Once the spilt water spills, you cannot replace it back into the glass."

The wind silently whooshed, the falling leaves dancing along as the full, bright moon up in the sky shined. A trembling sound of a bell rang through the whole town as people chattered. A certain dark-colored chariot went its way along the road, containing an enigmatic-looking man inside. The man looked out, tilting his head slightly, his short, straight hair swaying along as the frown on his lips turned into a small, rather nervous smirk as they arrived to their destination.
"Kuro.", the man driving the chariot said as the man inside stepped out. "Better succeed, or your life it is."
'Kuro' frowned at the

There it was. I'm sure I heard it. That awful sound which tenses my body, causes my face to turn pale and my heart to pound rapidly. Now that I was on edge, every other sound made my [colour] eyes widen and my breathing hitch slightly: something as simple as hearing two blades of metal slide against each other, the flashing shadows of the birds high up in the air, or even my own nervous ticks would set me off!
My husband - Kiku - and I were outside in the garden, enjoying the warm weather we were receiving. I was - not exactly sitting, but more - perched on a garden chair, now that I'd been agitated by hearin
