Chapter 1: Greetings, Enemy. Care for a chat?

The thick, damp air of July engulfed her as she stepped out of her silver Mercedes. The humidity and heat in Tokyo had made her crank up the AC in the car, but the moment she climbed out, her once cool and dry skin had turned sticky. Looking up at the starless midnight sky, she felt the tingles in her skin.

People called her 'Hitlady 13' or 'Jackie the Ripper', but 'Phantom Crow' was her favoriteー(name) was pleased with that nickname. The screeching of the black birds, flying at sundown and keeping an eye on their prey with gleaming eyes. With a clever mind, the flying creatures would swoop down and catch their victim, using their dangerously sharp claws.

White police cars with red lights flashed in the street with an ear-piercing blare of sirens. At least a dozen of these police cars were heading toward her way. The cars whizzed pass her, and she smirked a bit.

Climbing back into her car, she drove away from the bright streets of Minatoku, where the grand Tokyo Tower stood. Turning on the radio she could hear a clear, gruff voice of a newscaster, grumbling out the latest news. Then a young, higher pitched voice spoke.

"I apologize for the interruption. This is breaking news, we have just found out that Mr. Takeshi Yamamoto had been found dead at a hotel, at the age of 48. Police are now investigating this crime, and... Oh excuse me, here is some additional details about the incident. It seems as though it was the assassin, Phantom Crow again. She had left a mark in the crime scene with her name."

"Fuck yeah, that's me!"

(name) said hoarsely under her breath. Shinjuku, Kabukichou was a place well known for gangs and drug-dealers. It was were this 'crow girl' had lived for quite a while. Danger became part of her through the years, and fear was not something you should have to live in this redlight district. If you did have such things like fear, you would simply be a dead man walking on two feet.

But ever since she witnessed the death of her parents, (name) understood a world she was aware of, although she was aware of it before the incident. Death. Old men from a crime organization killed her parents. After witnessing the gruesome killing, the men took (name) to the headquarters, forcing her to become one of them, or be disposed of on the spot. Without any hesitation, she accepted the job, secretly swore to kill the men for what they'd done to her warm, peaceful family.

"I'm home!"

Silence responded and the assassin would sigh. It was a fairly old room, and it wasn't a nice place to live in, though. Paint chipping off walls, and the flickering lights that lit her room weren't what she could call home. Looking back at all the money she's got, she wanted to move to a better apartment. I mean, she's got enough money to have a silver Mercedes, so why not a better apartment? Tired and sleepy, (name) fell onto her bed, falling into a deep sleep.

(name) said, as she heard the cheery ring of the bell hung above the front door. She welcomed the guest to the bakery and smiled.

"Hey, (name)-chan, it's you break time."

"Okay~!"

She called out to her boss, Miss Nakamura. Just as (name) was about to snatch a piece of bread from the leftovers for a snack, one of her coworkers tapped her shoulder.

"You better be careful, I hear you do late part-time jobs too. Crimes are starting to increase in Tokyo recently."

It was Jun-kun, and he was a nice, friendly guy who worried about a lot of things. Lately, he's been worried about (name), though. Then Ai-chan, another coworker jumped in.

"Yeah, yeah, like yesterday? Oh, I just found out today on the NHK morning news, but Phantom Crow killed someone again!"

"Well, you guys know me. I'll be safe, and I really don't like talking about gruesome things like that..."

"Sorry (name)... Just take you break."

Settling down at a table in a corner, (name) started to eat her bread, only to be interrupted by a handsome man. He had somewhat broad shoulders and a slender body-structure.

"Excuse me, miss, mind if I sit with you? All the sats are filled."

"Oh, yes sure! If you don't mind my company."

The man took out his right hand, and (name) took it, shaking it very slightly. With a soft, calming voice he introduced himself.

"Kiku Honda, nice to meet you."

"(full name). Call me (name), if you'd like."

Chatting with Honda for a while, I grew quite fond him. He was very liberal and we shared a lot in common. Like anime, which we didn't talk too much about but...

"So, what do you do for a living, (name)-san?"

Assassin. A fucking assassin that kills for money.

"Well, I work here at the bakery, sometimes at Family Mart, and at a café how about you, Honda-san?"

"I see. I work as a police officer, actually."

Dammit, dammit, dammit... Would he be involved in the Phantom Crow crimes?

"That's so cool! So what crimes do you do? Are they really serious and dangerous like what I see in those detective dramas?"

"Haha, not quite. Actually, I'm not quite sure myself. I've just recently been moved up a rank, and am studying the more advanced cases... Like 'Phantom Crow'."

Shit. Just kill me now, this is the worst. And if he blows off my cover, I'd be dead, but... If I could somehow snatch some information about the police activity...

"Phantom Crow?! That's dangerous! Isn't she also called 'Jackie the something'?"

"Ah, yes. She is also known as 'Jackie the Ripper', after the British serial killer in London, 'Jack the Ripper'. I haven't witnessed her yet, but I'm quite scared."

"Good luck, and be careful! I gotta go, my break is over. Nice meeting you, Honda!"
