Terrible Love (Chapter Six)
Levi x Reader x Eren

What happened after Eren had been summoned to Levi's office, ___(name)___ did not know. Both seemed rather normal–as though nothing happened. However, ___(name)___ could tell by their actions, that they were in a fierce battle to win her over by dropping some secret loving things. Whether flowers or a love letter, she couldn't know how to react.

Just days before the 57th Expedition beyond the walls, the young warrior caught under the love-virus's control, visited her fellow friend who seemed to know nothing about romance–Zoe Hangi.

"Okay, okay... Zoe is intelligent, and it's just that she doesn't act that way... But how much would I expect her to tell me about love? I mean, ha, for all I know, she could start babbling about her recent Titan research..."

___(name)___ reached the front door of the Captain's office. Hesitating, she opened the door at before she could turn back and say "holy shit I shouldn't have done that."

Stacks, no, towers of paper, paper, paper. There, at the desk, Zoe was furiously jotting notes down on a separate sheet of paper, titled "57th Expedition: Long Distance Enemy Detection". Her desk and floor were covered with ink splatters that a certain clean-freak would not be pleased with.

"Hey, uhm, Zoe? Earth to Zoe?"

Zoe's head snapped back up and her round eyes sparkled with excitement, and a huge grin spread over her face.

"You finally came! Oh, oh, I was waiting so very long, you don't know! Alright, alright, grab a chair and sit and talk to me."

___(name)___ did as told and ran both her hands in her hair, and let out a long sigh. She leaned back on her chair and looked up at the ceiling, not wanting to make any eye contact with Zoe and explained everything that happened ever since the Titan experiment. And not once did the Titan-obsessed Captain stop listening.

"So simply put," ___(name)___ said, lifting her head up and scratching her head. "I'm in this weird position where both humanity's strongest soldier and the Titan-transforming human have fallen in love with me. And hell knows which one I like more."

"That. Is. Sweet. I didn't know that Levi had feeling like that towards... Girls! And Eren is a good kid, you know? Hmmm... I do have some information though, about that little 'meeting' in Corporal's office. I've been dying to tell you."

"What?!"

"You know, just eavesdropping on the little fellas. They had a pretty bad fight."

"Did... They get injured?"

"Nah, just yelling and all. But they both seemed to know that if the fight went physical, you'd worry. Levi was all, 'Don't get any closer to ___(name)___' and Eren went, 'I have my own right to love her', and they're serious. All I have to tell you is that your decision will hurt one and ease one. Whether Eren or Levi, it'll happen."

"But which one to hurt and to ease... The decision hurts me so much."

"Well, well," Hangi said. "I thought the warrior was always definite and proud of the decision she makes."

"That warrior could also be so very weak in the inside, too. Especially if it's something complex like romance."

___(name)___ stood up to think a bit more. It was a hard decision, and she knew that more than anyone else. Just before she left, ___(name)___ smirked and turned her head around and called out to Zoe.

“You’re much more feminine than I imagined.”

“Hey, what’s that supposed mean?!”

The 57th Expedition beyond the walls began.  ___(name)___ swore to never let her feelings interfere this expedition—it will change mankind. Whether the change is small or not, it will be the first step to success. To freedom.

However that Female Titan was not doing any help. The right flank of the formation was being completely annihilated, and anger kept boiling within her. Just what in the world does this Titan want? She was much too strong, and the killing rate was much too fast to have the soldiers keep the rest of the Scouting Region up to time with the information.

The plain… It was much of a con for the Scouting Region, and a pro for the Titans.

“Corporal Levi, I will gather as much information from those closest to the right flank.”

“You will not. Until I give out orders, do not freely move.”

___(name)___ grit her teeth. And Corporal Levi might just be getting on her nerves. Will they really let this expedition yet another large sacrifice?

“Listen, men are dying out there, Corporal! At least let me reach out a helping hand! Why hold back an arm that doesn’t even get a chance to extend?!”

“What is your duty, ___(name)___.”

…The soldier knew and bit her lip. To protect Eren, at all costs. Her life would be put on the line, and possibly sacrificed any moment. The weight of her own life scared her.

“The right flank is wiped out! I repeat, the right flank is wiped out!” A man interrupted her thoughts.

“Why on earth hadn’t there been orders for withdrawal?!”

“We’ve been going west for a while now.”

“We’re bound to run into that place… The Forest of Giant Trees.”

Orders from Captain Erwin finally reached—he commanded for only the center file to cut through the forest. ___(name)___ tried to wrap her head around it. How come? Why doesn’t the Corporal tell us what is going on.

___(name)___ met eyes with Petra at that moment. Both shared the same thoughts and feelings. We could only trust and believe that our leaders were making the right choices. Captain Erwin is a wise man, and everyone in the Scouting Legion understood that well.

“Sir, how are we supposed to avoid Titans and protect the carts under these circumstances?! For crying out loud we’re in a forest!” Eren shouted over the screams of dying soldiers and the loud horse hooves that bang against the ground.

“Well thank you, Mr. Obvious. If you haven’t realized yet, we have escaped the plains to be surrounded by trees—a perfect environment for the 3D Maneuver Gear.”

Fear froze at the tips of our fingers. We were lost birds, still searching for freedom, and putting our heart into a belief that was blindly fed to us. But we could sacrifice all, right? In the palm of her sweaty hand, was the machete that was the first step for ___(name)___ to become a soldier—a warrior. Preparations for sacrifice had already been ready since that day. But fear is an unstoppable force that will thrive in the human heart for eternity.

“Prepare your blades, men.” Levi said, pulling out his own.

Just for a while longer,___(name)___ thought, hearing the footsteps of the Female Titan. For a while longer, let me look forward, and not fear what is right behind me.

The battle for freedom has begun.
